The most commonly encountered disease of Prostate is Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia or BPH, which is observed (macroscopic and microscopic) in almost 50% of non peatered male dogs over 5 years old and in at least 90% of dogs over 7 years old.
PRINCIPLE
The test refers to the measurement of an hormone that is secreted by the prostate cells, under the control of androgens. This hormone is a normal component of sperm representing more than 90% of proteins in the prostatic fluid. This protein is detected in the sperm and also in the blood. Hyperplasia of the prostatic cells induces an increase in the serum concentration of CPSE.
